Solid fuel system was cleaned regularly by a well know national vendor with their last cleaning only 2 weeks before these pictures were taken. One states a pictures says a thousand words. These look like a million words. This was the buildup that was being left in the system that could have resulted in a extensive catastrophic fire. The ductwork snaked through this large complex. The good news is that this is all now removed from the system. The manager did state that the cleanings from the National Vendor were very inexpensive. Cost savings vs fire safety? Imagine how long this would have fueled a major grease fire if left in the previous condition and what the losses in life or property could have been. And now for the rest of the story. This particular restaurant group simply wanted the job done correctly and was not hiring the national vendor for cost savings. They were appalled when they saw this! The moral is that cost savings in grease exhaust cleanings almost always result is less than all of the duct being properly cleaned and eventually what often ends up as additional fuel for a fire through the systems.
